He shakes his head. "So fucking productive," he mutters. "Okay, so about Adrian. You should absolutely ask him for your powers back, Bug Girl. He'll probably do it, you know. He's all about magic and shit."
"It's not magic." She extricates her hands carefully, putting a clip on the threads she was weaving to keep them in place. "But yeah, I will. Nadja was down for it, but then the Barge did its thing before we got the chance.
"You gonna mind if he winds up being the one I get assigned to?"
He finds a relatively empty spot on the ground and sits down to be out of the way and watch. "No. Why would I mind? At least I can trust him not to fuck you over."
She nods. "Not sure I think he'd be the one to get me anywhere, graduation-wise. We agree on a lot of stuff. But I like him." She glances down at him as she measures another strand, and sends a spider to the ceiling to put enough sticky line down there to adhere it while she saws at it with her scissors.
"I haven't hung out much with any of my temps, but I'd probably have him around more."
"Yeah, you need a warden that you can argue with, I think. That's what Kaz and I do," he laughs. "I mean, when I'm being shitty, he doesn't let me be shitty for long."
He stretches his feet out in front of him.
"I wish we had a say in our wardens. I mean, Kaz was a good pick for me, but I still feel like taking our input would be good."
She smiles at 'Kaz,' still working on cutting her strand. It's not even as thick as yarn, but sturdy.
"I was wondering about that. Because some people go through one, two temps and get assigned, and now Adrian's my sixth. What are the criteria? How closely is the Admiral watching, and what's he looking for?"
There is a chair, but it has a large box of worms on it right now, so good thing he's good on the floor.
She raises her eyebrows. She didn't know Rags got assigned that fast. "Maybe he just has a lot of dice and it's fucking random. I don't even know what I should be trying to do or change."
"Be a better person," he tells her with a laugh, but he sobers a bit afterwards, tracing patterns against her floor.
His conversation with Cassandra's been weighing on him, but it's not something that he can just up and talk to Kiryu about. It's not something he feels like he can talk to anyone about. Anyone who isn't, well - a friend.
"Hey - do you ever - feel like you've just been one fucking thing your whole life? And you'll never be anything else?"
That makes sense. Human. He can just be human. Now he feels dumb for bringing it up, but he can't just back out.
"Well, I've only...ever been a thief. Rags the thief. And that's all I ever thought I could be. But, I don't know. Maybe I'm not just that? But if I'm not, I guess I don't know who or what I am," he tells her softly.
He gets up, takes her hand, and follows her up onto the bed. "Ah, here? No. When I go home? Maybe. I don't know. My life is so fucked at home that I don't know what's going to happen when we go back. We're going to defeat Morien. Take down the Queen, I guess. And then life is going to change and I guess I don't have to be a thief anymore, but I don't know what else I'm going to be. I don't - have any other skills. I can juggle real fucking good."
"That's - I kind of like being in the garden," he admits. "Not that I want to be a fucking farmer or anything. But I know that I can keep a garden. I can plant things and I know what they need."
He smiles. "I turned into a fae for a while, during the flood. Did you know? And I could fucking talk to the plants."
"They all want more fertilizer because it tastes good?" he laughs. "I don't know. They're needy fuckers. But they don't know what they need. They just like to complain and tell me how they miss real sun."
"No, thank fuck," he mutters. "I did see him as a wolf, but that's something that he does on his own, I think. We fought a bit, though. That was alright. I could actually kind of keep up with him in that way."
Taylor looks at him, raising an eyebrow, and tilts her device enough that he can see the video of a small ferret bouncing around gleefully in coils of Taylor's webbing.

He leans back on his elbows. Chairs are for fancy folk.
"I know that there are pairings that don't work out, either. And there are people who graduate themselves, like Entrapta did."

She steps down from her bed, though, sitting on the edge of it to be not so far above him.
"But I've definitely felt like I'm trapped being what I am, and not known how to move on."

"Thief is a job, Rags. You can be a thief, but you still take your hand out of people's pockets and quit for the day. You're not nothing when you do."
no subject
"I never stopped doing that," he tells her. "That was my life. Because if I stopped, I'd die. Even here, I still do it."

"Still think you'd die?"

She pulls her hair back into a ponytail, letting a spider tie it, only in part because she remembers what else he turned into during the flood.
