Oh, you know, just the usual stuff - keeping things tidy. I'd like to start doing haircuts; I'm pretty good at those.

Oh good, that's something we really need aboard. Dad did my last haircut, which was kind of a chop. Curly problems, you know.

No kidding. I'll do yours and you do mine? Mine's even curlier if I let it be, like, naturally, but I usually straighten it a little. But, uh-- your dad? Is he here?

Kiryu Kazuma. He's my dad in any way that matters.

Oh, I know him. So, uh, I'm guessing you met him here? Does stuff like that happen here a lot?

Yeah, there are a couple of found families. I moved in with Kaz after death #3 and started calling him Dad on Flotilla.

... "Death number three" is like the most alarming thing I've heard this week.

Yeeeah, it's not great. My counter's at five.

One back home, two on the boat, one on some world Admiral dumped us on for a few days, one in Flotilla.

And you aren't traumatized by it or anything?

Good support system. I've just started to think of it like catching the flu.

The death toll is. Everything else is... weird.

Okay, violently catching the flu.

Better. Kind of.

How, uh-- how long have you been here?

Just over two years.

[God. God, that's nuts.]

Well, uh-- you picked a good dad...? He seems like a good bodyguard type.

[A definite chuckle in her voice] He is that, but I hardly need it. He's a good dad type.

Strong and supportive...? Bad jokes?

Yep. Good at the hard conversations, hard to stay mad at because he just cares so much, falls asleep in front of the TV, makes good food when you're sick, just builds you up more when you've done something wrong. Good dad.

And the opposite from the one you had at home. Right?

[skitter]

In some ways, yeah. I left home - left him, when I was 15, for a bunch of reasons. Still loved him, but couldn’t stay.

[citizendetective]

And you're not in contact with him at all?

[skitter]

No, it's not like that. We were friendly. Hung out just a few days before I was killed, though that went. Poorly. Because of my asshole boss, not Danny.

But I couldn't tell him anything about me. And now I never intend to go home, so.

Huh... well, no judgement! I'm not really close with my dad, either.
